  1. Can I edit the styles to suite my site's appearence?

Yes, all styles are found in the faq_cfg.cgi file starting on line 130. As one of our customers, Dave Hauser, suggested, you should make notes of any edits you make in a text file and store it in the same folder as the scripts. You can then refer to your notes when we release an updated version.

  2. How do I change the font for the Q n As?

Easy. The last tag in your header should be a <font> tag or a <p> or any other tag that can render text. E.g.

    <font color="red"> or

    <p style="color:red">

Then close that tag in your footer.

  3. What is Build A FAQ Lite?

Build A FAQ Lite, as the name implies, builds your FAQ Center. The free version WITHOUT a built in search engine, printer friendly version and Submit a Question capability. You can create categories and add questions and answers to them. Each page will be created using the template you entered. All questions and answers are automatically displayed in an easy to read format.

  4. Will spiders index my FAQ pages?

Yes, each time you create a category, indexable HTML pages are created. That's the main reason we built this script. Most other FAQ builders, simply add flat text files to your server which are never seen by any spider, costing you valuable hits.

  5. When I remove the Header Inserts, why do they keep comming back?

Enter a space instead of nothing at all. This will trick the scripts into not thinking the data files have been lost and will therefore not restore the back ups.

  6. How do I add new Questions and Answers?

First you must create a Category. On the "Summary" page, enter a name for the category and you may optionally enter a short description of what the user can expect to find in it. After clicking the button labelled "Add New", the page will reload and you will see the name you just entered. Click on the name to start building your page.

  7. How do I sort Categories?

There are two ways to sort categories. You can either enter numbers in the small boxes provided under the "P" header. Or you can leave all boxes blank to have them automatically sorted in alphabetical order.

If using numbers, it pays to skip numbers so you can slip in new questions without having to change every questions position. For example, you could enter 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 then skip 20 and enter 25, 26, 27, 28. This scenario would leave room for an additional 20 questions to be slipped in without having to re order questions number 25+

  8. How do I sort the Questions and answers?

Enter a number in the small box beside each question. If you forget to enter a number beside a question, the script will read it as zero and place it at the top of your page.

  9. How do I delete entire categories?

From the "Summary" page, put a check mark beside the category you no longer wish to maintain. Make any other edits and press the "Submit" button. All edits and deletions will be applied simultaneously.

  10. How do I delete individual Questions?

Put a checkmark in the small box labelled "Delete" beside each question you would like removed. Then press the button at the bottom of the page. All "checked" questions will be deleted. At the same time, all edits made to the other questions, answers and order of positions will also be applied.
